When to choose Counselling or PsychotherapyWith unfailing kindness, your life always presents what you need to learn. Whether you stay at home or work in an office or whatever, the next teacher is going to pop right up.
- Charlottle Joko Beck
Sometimes we feel overwhelmed by life’s obstacles, and finding the right sort of help feels like an extra burden. Though friends and family may offer support, we often feel isolated and need someone who is trained to listen and not judge us, and for whom confidentiality is part of their contract. Talking through our problems in this safe space allows us to deal with the crisis, to heal past trauma and let go of ways of being that no longer serve us. We can then reconnect with our dreams and find a sense of purpose and meaning that may be missing in our lives.
Which to choose
I offer short term counselling for 6/12 sessions, which can support you to address practical ways of coping with present difficulties. Psychotherapy is an open-ended process, allowing you to explore the impact of the past on the present, towards freedom, choice and change. An initial contract of six sessions is recommended, with a review in order to consider your commitment.
How I work
In a first consultation, we can discuss any questions you may have about the therapeutic process, My training is integrative and draws from several approaches, exploring and acknowledging the person from a humanistic perspective with his or her body, feelings, intellect as well as soul. If you decide not to begin I will not charge for this session and am happy to refer you to a colleague.
